If you were wondering about when it is legal for you to polish someone teeth?
The answer is that by law (Oregon Board of Dentistry) you can polish teeth only after a Dentist or Hygienist (in Washington only the Dentist) has determined that the teeth are calculus free. What does that look like? As soon as you have the patient in your chair you need to notify the Doctor/Hygienist that you need a calculus check. You can do a toothbrush prophy and check the mouth, but wait for the calculus check before you begin the actual prophy.

Nancy McDaniel returns from retirement to join the Internal Agency

Please Welecome Nancy McDaniel
Nancy has been a dental assistant for 36 years with 22 years at Kaiser. She worked at the Beaverton clinic for about 9 1/2 years and then moved to the Glisan clinic when it opened in Sept. '96 and stayed there until her retirement this year. And we are all jealous :) Nancy and her husband Jim have been married for 35 years. Way to go! Nancy is enjoying her retirement and spending time in a second home in Tucson AZ. Much of the time you will find Jim and Nancy enjoying life and riding on Jim's motorcycle.
They have a son, Jeff. Jeff and his wife, Jamie have a 2 yr old girl, Jaden, soon to be joined by a second daughter in December! Nancy also likes working out in her yard now that I have the time. She loves to read and do needle work. But the best time is that she has time to spend being with her sweet granddaughter.

New Staff member - Welcome Lana Dovgan

Lana has been with the Sunset office since February as a temporary employee and has enjoyed working in many various positions there, from X-ray to chairside. She loves the teamwork of Kaiser, she says staff are always making sure you get your break and just in to helping each other. In the past she worked with Dental Staffing and during her Externship she worked in an Emergency office. Lana likes the variety at Kaiser as opposed to doing a lot of extractions at the Emergency office and she is definitely glad that she does not need to sit at a receptionist desk day after day.
Lana is into many sports but her favorite is volleyball. Lana lives with her Mom and Day, right now they don't have any pets, but if they did she likes little dogs, her favorite Black Labs. What? Lana that is not a little dog :)

New member to our Staff, Welcome Shelley Hess
Shelley HessShelley comes to us with 15 years experience in Dental, mostly in private offices. Her favorite procedures are veneers and Crown and Bridge, because she likes to see the outcome and make someone happy.
Shelley is a people person and likes to talk, so grab a cup of coffee if you see her and get to know her. She is an avid reader, especially anything by Stephen King or a Harry Potter novel.
Shelley has two kids, a 10 year old boy and a 3 year old girl. Her favorite vacation of all time was to Washington DC at age 15. Favorite location there the Smithsonian, where she saw the Fonz's jacket, an old school house and of course the hope diamond.
